Artist: Karla Black, Contextual Research

20-26th March

Information is written in the sketchbook: Using materials such as plaster, plastics and clingfilm as a base then painting over them with everyday substances on top including shampoo, lipsticks, hair gel, nail varnish, vaseline and other daily cosmetics- Black creates these installations.

Karla Blacks work initially struck my likings due to how contemporary it is ad the innovative materials she uses. Although Blacks meaning behind the work isn’t a priority to her and the material experience is more important, I see Modernity and consumerism. Her work looks like floating bits of plastic pollution in the sea and the decoration painted on top fore me represents consumerism and products toay humans care about.
